New district bus policy retains continuity for Martin County students
STUART—Good news for Martin County students who rode the bus last year.
The new Martin County School District bus transportation policy ensures they will continue to do so for the 2018-2019 school year—so as long as they are returning to the same school.
“This is part of a comprehensive effort around bus ridership to provide as much continuity as possible for students, parents, grandparents and student guardians,” says Laurie J. Gaylord, superintendent of the Martin County School District. “We are excited for the beginning of the new school year and want to make sure parents know that from the start of the first day onward, returning riders will again have a reliable way to get to school.”
The Martin County School Board initiated action in March to continue bus ridership for students returning to the same school he or she rode the bus to last year. Students who live more than 2 miles from their zoned school will continue to receive bus transportation.
To ensure everyone is informed, the district is conducting an “All-call” update to parents each week starting Wednesday leading up to the Aug. 13 start of the new school year.
Any student ineligible for bus transportation can download an application for the fee-based ridership program at the district website, www.MartinSchools.org.
